Malta’s cheekiest Christmas tradition is back. Chucky’s Solo Panto: Spill-the-Tea Party takes on Alice in Wonderland this year, and it’s strictly for grown-ups. It runs for 20 nights from 1 December 2026 to 3 January 2027 at Sirena, Malta’s drag bar in Sliema.
The story
A serious crime has been committed at the Mad Hatter’s tea party, and the Queen of Hearts wants someone’s head. Was it the Duchess? The Cheshire Cat? The rather tipsy Caterpillar? Or someone in the audience? What follows is a ridiculous panto court case with a different outcome every night, so no two shows end the same way.
And who plays Alice? You do. The whole audience is Alice, so you’re encouraged to turn up in your best Alice outfit.
Who’s behind it
The show stars Chucky Bartolo, the Maltese comedian and drag performer known as the voice of Love Island Malta, and is written and directed by Vikesh Godhwani. Chucky played the Dame in Malta’s national panto from 2018 to 2020 before going solo, and last year’s edition earned a glowing review from critic Ramona Depares: “Two hours of non-stop belly laughter can’t command a price.”
This year the panto moves to Sirena, the drag bar Chucky opened in Sliema, for a more intimate, boundary-pushing night. It’s also the longest run yet, and every show is followed by an after-party.
