The Big 3 – Cinematic Legends is an ambitious live orchestral production celebrating the extraordinary world of film music and the composers whose scores have become inseparable from some of cinema’s most memorable moments.

At the heart of the production is the music of three giants of the genre — Hans Zimmer, Ennio Morricone and John Williams — composers whose distinctive musical languages have shaped the sound of cinema across generations. Their music has travelled far beyond the films for which it was originally written, becoming part of popular culture and attracting audiences to concert halls and arenas throughout the world.

Presented on Saturday, 16 January 2027 at the MFCC, Ta’ Qali, The Big 3 brings this remarkable repertoire to life on a large symphonic scale. The production features the Malta Philharmonic Orchestra and Kor Malta, joined by an exceptional line-up of internationally established artists who have direct experience within the world of major cinematic and crossover productions.

Acclaimed Moldovan violinist Rusanda Panfili, a regular collaborator and soloist with Hans Zimmer and a performer with Andrea Bocelli, brings the expressive power and virtuosity of the violin to the production. Internationally renowned multi-instrumentalist Pedro Eustache, whose extensive film work includes performing on the soundtrack of Dune, contributes his extraordinary range of woodwind colours and distinctive musical voice. They are joined by singer Carla Chamoun, a touring vocalist with The World of Hans Zimmer, whose voice adds another dimension to the concert's most evocative vocal moments.

Leading the musical forces is acclaimed British conductor and pianist Gavin Greenaway, whose career is closely associated with some of the world's most significant film-music productions and composers. His extensive experience in conducting large-scale orchestral performances brings both authenticity and an important artistic connection to the repertoire being presented.

The concert combines symphony orchestra, choir, soloists, contemporary rhythm section and cinematic visual production, creating an experience in which music and imagery come together on a grand scale. From the intimacy of Morricone's unforgettable melodies to the heroic themes and sweeping orchestral writing of Williams and the visceral, contemporary sound world of Zimmer, the programme explores the remarkable breadth of music written for the screen.

Audiences will be taken on a musical journey through different eras and styles of cinema: from the evocative landscapes of the Western and the emotional lyricism of European cinema to epic adventures, fantasy worlds and the powerful soundscapes of contemporary blockbusters. Alongside the music of the three featured composers, the programme will also include carefully selected works from the wider world of cinematic music.

More than simply a concert of film themes, The Big 3 – Cinematic Legends has been conceived as a complete live experience. Large-scale staging, lighting and specially created visual elements will complement the orchestra and performers, transforming the MFCC into an immersive cinematic concert environment.

Produced by Jemmbiz Events, in collaboration with RPL Malta and Calma Management, the project brings together leading Maltese and international artistic forces in a production created in Malta with an international outlook. The concept is also being developed with the ambition of taking the production beyond Malta to international venues, presenting a Maltese-produced large-scale cultural event to audiences overseas.

The Big 3 – Cinematic Legends ultimately celebrates the extraordinary relationship between music and moving image— and the ability of a great film score to make us remember a scene, a character, an emotion or an entire story from the very first notes.
