Some film scores are as famous as the films themselves. The Big 3: Cinematic Legends brings the music of Hans Zimmer, Ennio Morricone and John Williams to the stage of the MFCC in Ta’ Qali on Saturday 16 January 2027 at 19:30, on a full symphonic scale. Tickets are now on sale.
Three composers, one night
Few composers have shaped the sound of cinema like these three. Morricone gave the Western its unforgettable melodies, Williams wrote the heroic themes behind some of the biggest adventures on screen, and Zimmer created the powerful, modern sound of today’s blockbusters. The programme moves through those eras and styles, from Westerns and European cinema to fantasy worlds and epic adventures, and also includes other well-chosen pieces of film music.
Who’s performing
The Malta Philharmonic Orchestra and Kor Malta are joined by four international artists with real experience of film music:
- Gavin Greenaway, conductor: the British conductor and pianist whose career is closely tied to major film-music productions.
- Rusanda Panfili, violinist: the Moldovan violinist is a regular soloist with Hans Zimmer and has performed with Andrea Bocelli.
- Pedro Eustache, flutist: the multi-instrumentalist played on the soundtrack of Dune.
- Carla Chamoun, vocalist: a touring singer with The World of Hans Zimmer.
More than a concert
Alongside the orchestra, choir, soloists and a contemporary rhythm section, the show uses large-scale staging, lighting and specially made visuals to turn the MFCC into a cinematic concert space. It is produced in Malta by Jemmbiz Events with RPL Malta and Calma Management, and the team hopes to take it to venues abroad.
